Dive into the mesmerizing beauty of the North Shore in this engaging pastel workshop with award-winning artist, Casey Krawczyk! Learn to capture the dynamic essence of Lake Superior as you learn techniques for painting both a serene, reflective lakescape.
Pastels offer the richness of pure pigment with little need for brushes, providing a unique and versatile medium for artistic expression. Discover how to expertly layer color, create depth and atmosphere, blend seamless gradations, and play with texture in this comprehensive and hands-on session.

You are welcome to bring any type of soft pastels and paper you have access to. If you are looking for recommendations, here are some options in a range of budgets:
Pastels:
-Sennelier’s Plein Air Landscape Set of 80 half-pastels OR
-Stabillo Carbothello set of pastel pencils OR
-NuPastels, set of 24 or 36 (or more if desired)
Pastel Paper:
-LuxArchival Uart Sanded Pastel Paper-11”x14” (or larger if you prefer), 400 grade, comes in a pack of 5 OR
-Uart sanded paper, natural, 12”x18”, 400 grade, 2 sheets
Additional Materials:
-workable fixative rubbing alcohol make-up sponges
-viva paper towels
-blending stumps
-medium-sized pastel brush
-drawing board bulldog clips
-jar or cup for water
-jar or cup for rubbing alcohol (with a large enough mouth to dip in a 1” brush)
-1” wide synthetic brush
Meet Your Instructor
An award-winning artist, Casey Krawczyk earned her B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and her M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art (NYAA). Casey was significantly influenced by her upbringing in rural Minnesota and the prominent Finnish and Indigenous cultures of the region, which encouraged a deep connection to nature. Her work presents a harmonious blend of meticulous detail and a profound connection with nature, reflecting her diverse background and artistic education. Casey has several years of teaching experience; she was a professor at Western State Colorado, has taught workshops far and wide, and currently teaches classical painting and drawing on-line for the New York Academy of Art. Her work can be seen at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, SC, Peter Jung Fine Arts in Hudson, NY and Keating Fine Art in Basalt, CO. www.caseykrawczyk.com

Class Registration Terms & Conditions:
Payment & Registration: Full payment is required at the time of registration to secure your spot in the class. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Refunds & Cancellations: Cancellations made more than 7 days before the class start date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 7 days of the class are non-refundable. SOLCA reserves the right to cancel the class due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances, in which case a full refund will be provided.
Class Rescheduling: If the class is rescheduled, participants will be notified promptly. You may choose to transfer your registration to the new date or receive a full refund.
Liability: SOLCA is not responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur during the class. Participation is at your own risk.
Materials & Equipment: All necessary materials and equipment will be provided unless otherwise specified. Please inform the instructor of any restrictions, limitations, or allergies in advance.
Code of Conduct: Participants are expected to follow the instructor's guidelines and respect fellow attendees. Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the class without a refund.
